Microsclerotherapy is used to treat thread veins on the legs by injecting a substance called sclerosant. This substance causes a swelling in the vein wall which over a few weeks will encourage the vein to either become less noticeable or even invisible. A single blood vessel may need to be injected more than once, and most patients require between 2 and 6 treatments depending on the size of treatment area.
The treatment will take approximately 1 hour depending on the size and location of veins.
You may experience a burning or itching sensation from the injection site during the treatment, and possibly restlessness during the nights following the treatment due to swelling of the vein walls.
